With a view to provide LPG connections to five crore poor households, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by the Government. Under PMUY, five crore new LPG connections to the women belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families over a period of three years starting from Financial Year 2016-17 are being released.
The estimated reserves of crude oil in India as on 31 March, 2016 stood at 621.10 million tonnes (MT) against 635.60 million tonnes on 31 March, 2015. Geographical distribution of crude oil indicates that the maximum reserves are in the Western Offshore (39.79%) followed by Assam (25.89%).
As on 31 March 2016, there were a total of 23 refineries in India - 18 in the Public Sector, 3 in the Private sector and 2 in the Joint Venture. The refining capacity was 230 MMT on which is 15 MMT higher than the country’s refining capacity (215 MMT) on 31 March, 2015.
