Installed Power Generation Capacity in India

As on 30 June, 2021, the installed generation capacity in the country has been around 3,84,115.94 Mega Watt (MW) comprising of 2,34,058.22 MW of Thermal, 46,322.22 MW of Hydro, 96,955.51 MW of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and 6,780 MW of Nuclear.

10-Year Growth from 2007 to 2016

The total installed capacity for electricity generation in India has increased from 1,54,664 MW as on 31.03.2007 to 3,50,367 MW as on 31.03.2016, registering a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.52%.

At the end of March 2016, thermal power plants accounted for 73.50% of the total installed capacity in the country, with an installed capacity of 2,57,528 MW. Other renewable Sources (excluding hydro) come next with an installed capacity of 44,217 MW, accounting for 12.62% of the total installed capacity. The share of Hydro and Nuclear energy was only 12.23% and 1.65% of total installed capacity.
