State-wise Per Capita Consumption of Electricity in India
Electricity is in the concurrent list and providing electricity connection to consumers is the responsibility of the States and distribution companies. However, the Central Government provides assistance to States under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) for creation of necessary infrastructure for rural electrification.
Government of India has launched Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana - "Saubhagya" to achieve universal household electrification.
The scheme provides last mile connectivity and electricity connections to all unelectrified households in rural and all poor un-electrified households in urban areas. All remaining un-electrified households are targeted for electrification by 31st March, 2019.
